LOS ANGELES – The San Diego softball program (0-5, 0-0 WCC) nearly secured the highest ranked win in program history, but fell just shy, dropping a doubleheader to No. 2 UCLA (6-0, 0-0 PAC-12) on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium.

The Toreros fell 14-0 (F/5) in the opener, before dropping the second game, 5-2 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE – SAN DIEGO 0, NO. 2 UCLA 14
- The Toreros struggled in the opener, as UCLA's Megan Faraimo recorded a gem in the circle.
- UCLA scored at least three runs in each inning, slowly building up their lead. Â
- San Diego got its best opportunity in the top of the fourth inning, as Izzy Owen reached on an error.
- Taylor Johnson also reached on a hit-by-pitch getting Owen into scoring position. However, the Toreros were unable to bring the duo home.
- Faraimo would secure the run-rule victory for UCLA in the top of the fifth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO – SAN DIEGO 2, NO. 2 UCLA 5
- After going scoreless in the opener, the Toreros struck quickly in game two.
- Owen led off the game with a single and Amanda Limon reached on an error. EJ Joyner moved them forward with a sacrifice bunt and set up Arisa Tovar.
- Tovar worked a favorable count and connected for an RBI single to score Owen.
- Clareese Santiago quickly followed it up with an RBI single of her own and gave San Diego an early 2-0 lead.
- Kelsey Tadlock got the start for the Toreros in the circle and opened up the game with tremendous success.
- Tadlock began with three scoreless innings, striking out two batters and getting out of a third inning, bases loaded situation.
- UCLA earned their first run on a home run by Sharlize Palacios in the fourth inning.
- San Diego had a chance to extend the lead in the fifth inning, loading the bases on singles from Owen and Joyner, but could not drive in a run.
- The Bruins were able to tie the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
- Tadlock continued to battle and kept the UCLA offense in check, but the Bruins got a three-run home run by Maya Brady to win the game in the seventh inning.

TORERO TIDBITS
- Owen's three hit day matches a career-best at San Diego, which she did three times last season.
- Emma Giaime made her collegiate debut in game one against the Bruins.
- Johnson has drawn five hit-by-pitches in five games as a Torero. Last season's single season leaders were only hit six times.

The Toreros will wrap up the seven-game road trip, with a doubleheader at Long Beach State on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. PT.
