Despite shooting 51.5% from the field, 46.2% from three, and 85.7% from the free throw line, the University of San Diego men's basketball team (11-16, 4-9 WCC) fell at Pacific (13-14, 6-6 WCC) on Saturday, 99-94. Fifth year guard Jase Townsend registered a season-high 34 points, making 12-of-20 field goals and 7-of-11 from long range. He added three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Deuce Turner added 16 points after starting for the third straight game, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor. Marcellus Earlington (15 points, 8 rebounds), Wayne McKinney (14), and Nic Lynch (12) all scored in double figures as well.

SCOUTING THE GAELS

Saint Mary's currently sits atop the WCC standings at 11-1, falling for the first time at LMU on February 9. The Gaels have a NET ranking of 6, and rank top-5 nationally in rebound margin (8.6), and scoring defense (58.7). Four players are averaging double figures, including freshman guard Aidan Mahaney (15.1 PPG, 2.4 RPG), fifth year guard Logan Johnson (13.7 PPG, 4.8 RPG), senior guard Alex Ducas (12.6 PPG, 3.8 RPG), and junior center Mitchell Saxen (12.0 PPG, 8.4 RPG). Saint Mary's averages just 10.8 turnovers per game, which leads the WCC.
