SAN DIEGO – In its first home dual match of the season, the No. 18 University of San Diego women's tennis team defeated Hawaii, 5-2.
The Toreros earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 (#16
Elizabeth Goldsmith and
Kailey Evans) and a 6-3 margin at No. 3 (
Claudia De Las Heras and
Jordyn McBride).
Goldsmith was the first to finish in singles, winning 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore
Filippa Bruu-Syversen extended the overall lead to 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
After Hawaii battled back with two wins,
Victoria Kalaitzis clinched the win for USD in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.
Claudia De Las Heras added another for good measure at No. 2 by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
San Diego improves to 3-5 on the season, and will head to Waco, TX next weekend to face Washington and Baylor.
