Women’s Basketball Wraps Up Regular Season with No. 18 Gonzaga, Portland

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (16-11, 10-6 WCC) enters the final week of the regular season, looking to secure WCC Tournament positioning, hosting No. 18 Gonzaga (25-3, 15-1 WCC) on Thursday at 6 p.m., and Portland (20-7, 14-2 WCC) on Saturday at 2 p.m., in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Behind a clutch shot to force overtime from Ayanna Khalfani, with just six seconds left, the Toreros rallied to earn a 69-62 overtime win at Santa Clara on Feb. 18.
  • Khalfani crossed 20 points once again, finishing with 20 points and eight rebounds.
  • Kasey Neubert also had a standout showing with a season-high 18 points and seven rebounds, while Myah Pace scored all 13 of her points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • The Toreros are hoping to snap a 13-game skid to Gonzaga and trail 23-51 in the all-time series. Gonzaga earned a narrow 70-59 win in Spokane back on Dec. 19.
  • After an 84-81 thriller in Portland on Dec. 17, the Toreros are hoping to get back in the win column against the Pilots, while leading the all-time series 46-36.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • The Toreros will honor their senior class on Saturday afternoon, as Khalfani, Kiera Oakry, Amanda Olinger and Pace will play their final regular season game in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The program will honor them and graduate assistant Maddie Washington, who is also completing her degree.
  • Handling the basketball remains one of the key factors for San Diego, who lead the WCC in turnover margin (2.48), while ranking third in turnovers forced per game (16.15).
  • The Toreros continue to find success on the glass, ranking 35th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.2).
  • Neubert has been dominant on the glass in recent weeks, averaging 10.0 rebounds per game over her last nine contests and 7.4 rebounds per game this season, which ranks fifth in the conference.
  • Should her pace continue, it would be the highest per game average by a Torero since Patricia Brossmann (7.6 RPG) in the 2018-19 season.
  • San Diego is hoping to jump out to an early lead, where they tend to have the most success. San Diego is 14-3 when leading or tied at halftime, while 2-8 when they trail. The team broke their 0-5 start when they trail with a 16-point comeback victory over Saint Mary's on Dec. 29 and added the other win last Saturday against BYU.
  • Harsimran Kaur has emerged in a bench role over the past three games, averaging 16 minutes per game and 6.7 points per game, while shooting 52.6 percent from the field.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Oakry has been adept at drawing contact all season and has gotten to the free throw line frequently, ranking third in the WCC and in the top-100 nationally in free throws made (100). As a unit, the Toreros lead the league in free throw attempts per game and makes per game.
  • Myah Pace (1,082) is continuing her climb up the Toreros record books and sits in 15th on the all-time scoring list. Pace needs 17 more points to pass Kerri Nakamoto (1,098) for 14th.
  • In addition, Pace is 13 steals away from 250 in her career and ranks fourth all-time at San Diego, needing three to match Amanda Rego (240) for third place.
  • Pace is also eighth all-time in assists at 360 and needs two more to match Dominique Conners (362) for seventh.
  • Neubert is closing in on 500 rebounds in her collegiate career between Hawai'i and San Diego, needing just one more to reach the threshold.
