Shooting 52.5 percent from the floor, Santa Clara (23-8, 11-5 WCC) defeated the University of San Diego men's basketball team (11-18, 4-11 WCC) in the regular season finale, 81-63. Fifth year guard Marcellus Earlington led the Toreros with 17 points and seven rebounds, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Fifth year guard Jase Townsend added 11 points (4-4 FT) and four rebounds in the loss. Sophomore guard Deuce Turner registered nine points, while sophomore guard Wayne McKinney compiled seven with two assists.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS
After being selected to finish fifth in the WCC Preseason Poll, Portland finished eighth with a 5-11 conference record. The Pilots lead the WCC and rank 4th nationally in free throws made per game (17.5). Redshirt junior forward Moses Wood leads the team with 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He scored 26 against USD on January 19. Junior guard Tyler Robertson is adding 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and a WCC-best 5.2 assists per contest. Redshirt junior forward Kristian Sjolund (11.5) and redshirt junior guard Mike Meadows (11.3) are also averaging double figures.

USD holds a 59-35 lead in the all-times series, but the Pilots won both games in the regular season, 88-83 and 80-61. Marcellus Earlington scored 32 points and 20 points in the two losses.
