SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (8-17, 0-0 WCC) split the final two games of the San Diego Tournament on Sunday, defeating Western Carolina (7-10, 0-0 SoCon), 8-1, and falling to Yale (5-9, 0-0 Ivy), 4-1, at the USD Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SAN DIEGO 8, WESTERN CAROLINA 1
- San Diego would strike early and often in the game against the Catamounts, opening the scoring in the first inning. Â
- After a leadoff single by Izzy Owen, EJ Joyner was able to dump a ball into right center field that was misread by the defense and allowed the first run to score.
- In the second inning, the Toreros jumped all over the Catamounts, as Joecellia Roberts, KJ Hopfer and Mikalyn Emanuelli hit back-to-back-to-back singles to drive in the first run.
- A single by Owen forced a throwing error by the Catamounts and scored another run to make it 3-0.
- An RBI sacrifice fly by Amanda Limon and an RBI double by Taylor Johnson helped break the game open even more, as the Toreros expanded the lead to 5-0.
- The runs continued to pour in, as Owen and Limon added RBI singles in the fourth inning to take a 7-0.
- While Western Carolina finally got a run off starting pitcher Madison Earnshaw in the sixth inning, the Toreros quickly responded with a run home in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-1.
- Earnshaw polished off a complete game performance with three straight ground outs in the seventh inning to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SAN DIEGO 1, YALE 4
- San Diego met the Bulldogs for the first time in program history and got into a tight, low-scoring battles with the visitors.
- Yale was the first to strike in the second inning, recording a double to score one.
- San Diego quickly answered when Shawnese Hogue-Lacy drew a hit-by-pitch and stole a base.
- Roberts would drive her home with an RBI single through the right side to tie the game at 1-1.
- While pitcher Ashley Daugherty continued to hold her own, the Toreros could not crack the Yale defense any further.
- In the fifth inning, the Bulldogs got the break they needed, with a bases loaded triple by Lauren Perren to go ahead 4-1.
- San Diego was unable to respond and would ultimately fall by the same score line.

TORERO TIDBITS
- With seven strikeouts by Earnshaw (285), she moves into sole possession of sixth place on the Toreros all-time strikeout charts, passing Jade Quentin (281) and Delaney Heller (284). Next up is Colleen Norman (311) in fifth.
- Owen matched a program record with four runs scored in the win over Western Carolina. Only four others in program history have accomplished the feat.
- Joyner extended her on-base streak to eight consecutive games, matching the longest of the season by any Toreros.
- The Toreros crossed 10 hits for the fourth time this season and are now 3-1 in games with 10 or more hits.
