Season Concludes in WNIT Super 16 for Women’s Basketball

EUGENE, Ore. – The San Diego women's basketball program (19-14, 11-7 WCC), saw their Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) run come to a close, falling to Oregon (20-14, 7-11 WCC), 81-61, in the Super 16 on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides spent the early part of the first quarter figuring each other's defense out, with multiple ties and lead changes.
  • Kiera Oakry got off to a quick start for the Toreros with six of the team's first 12 points to take a 12-9 lead.
  • However, the Ducks offense began to come alive, ending the quarter on a 13-2 run for a 22-14 lead.
  • While the Oregon lead ballooned to as high as 17 in the second quarter, the Toreros would not go away quietly.
  • Amanda Olinger hit a three in the second to cut the lead to 12 and after going into the break down 13, the Toreros cut the lead to just nine early in the third quarter.
  • Kasey Neubert would become a critical factor in the third, with six points and five rebounds in the period to secure yet another double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds in the game.
  • However, the Ducks were able to hold off any late runs, despite a terrific effort from Harsimran Kaur, who finished with a season-high 10 points and six rebounds.
  • San Diego was able to finish the game strong, winning the fourth quarter 21-20 and ending the game on a 6-0 run.
