SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (6-14, 0-0 WCC) won their third consecutive game, downing Montana (0-19, 0-0 Big Sky), 11-0, in five innings on Saturday night and day two of the San Diego Classic at SDSU Softball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a 12-0 win over Montana on Friday, the Toreros got off to another quick start against the Grizzlies on Saturday night.
- While three runners were stranded in the first inning, the Toreros struck first in the second.
- A Joecellia Roberts single opened the inning and she would come around to score on a throwing error.
- In the third inning, the Toreros loaded the bases with no one out to set up Emma Giaime. The freshman drove in a run on an RBI single to make it 2-0.
- Shawnese Hogue-Lacy added another run with a sacrifice fly and Roberts tacked on additional tally with an RBI double to make it 4-0.
- While Giaimie continued to control the Grizzlies in the circle, the Toreros added more runs to support her in the next two innings.
- Izzy Owen drove in two more runs with a single and Giaime drove home Owen with an RBI double to make it 7-0.
- The power surge continued in the fifth inning, as Roberts led off the frame with a solo home run.
- EJ Joyner added another solo home run with two outs, but the Toreros were not done, going up 9-0 with two more runners on base.
- Owen and Giaime would each add RBI singles to make it 11-0, giving Giaime what she needed to finish off the complete game.
- The San Diego native allowed just four hits over five innings, keeping Montana in check and earning her first collegiate win.

TORERO TIDBITS
- San Diego has won three consecutive games via a shutout, for the first time since Jan. 31 – Feb. 1, 2004, when they defeated Whittier twice and UC San Diego once.
- The Toreros have also won back-to-back shutouts by margins of 10 or more runs for the first time since Apr. 4 & 5, 1997 against Redlands and Whittier.
- Owen has reached base in seven consecutive plate appearances, going 5-for-5 with seven RBI, two doubles and two walks against the Grizzlies.
- Roberts extended her hitting streak to six straight games and on-base streak to seven consecutive games.
- Joyner's three home runs this season are the most by a Torero true freshman since Sophia Bjerk's three in 2019.
