First-inning solo home run the difference in crosstown matchup at Tony Gwynn Stadium

SAN DIEGO — A first-inning home run was the difference in a crosstown rivalry matchup on Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium, dealing San Diego baseball (15-19-1, 8-7 WCC) a 1-0 loss to San Diego State (14-19, 8-5 Mountain West).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Aztecs plated a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run before the USD bullpen held them scoreless for the game's final seven innings while allowing just two other hits.
ON THE MOUND TORERO TIDBITS
  • Minor, LaMaison, Robinson, and Gonzalez turned in 1-2-3 innings on Tuesday in their lone inning of work.
  • Minor led USD with two strikeouts.
  • Only two walks were drawn on Tuesday night — one by each team.
  • Will Worthington (second inning) and Kevin Sim (fourth inning) notched the Toreros' lone two hits.
  • Worthington also worked USD's only walk.
