MORAGA, Calif. — San Diego baseball (23-23-1, 16-9 WCC) on Friday afternoon utilized a bit of small ball and a brilliant pitching performance from
Ryan Robinson to earn a 4-3 win in game one of its series at Saint Mary's, taking down the Gaels (20-23, 13-12 WCC) in what marked USD's third consecutive West Coast Conference victory.
ANY WAY THEY CAN
- Will Worthington gave the Toreros an early lead with an RBI groundout in the top of the second, then Angelo Peraza added on in the top of the fifth with an RBI double to make it 2-0.
- A bases-loaded walk from Dustin Allen in the top of the sixth gave San Diego its largest lead of the day at 3-0 before SMC finally answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- Austin Smith provided an immediate response in the top of the sixth, pushing the Toreros' advantage back to three runs at 4-1 when he legged out an RBI infield single.
- Saint Mary's scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on another solo homer and an RBI single but got no closer, giving USD a 4-3 win on Friday at Louis Guisto Field.
ROBINSON SHINES AGAIN
