SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (0-1-1, 0-0-0 WCC) pressured the opposing defense for much of the evening, but ended the game with a draw, tying UC Riverside (0-1-1, 0-0-0 Big West), 0-0, on Saturday night at Manchester Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the two sides meeting a day early on a different field, much of the first half was spent with the Toreros and Highlanders probing each other's defenses.
- Both sides battled to an even first half, with the Toreros holding a 4-3 edge in shots.
- Freshman Tamia Graham helped generate an early opportunity in the 34th minute, but the Toreros were unable to break through.
- San Diego came out of the gate quickly in the second half, shooting early and often for six shots in the first 11 minutes.
- The Toreros turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes and registered four shots on goal and six shots total during that span.
- A wild scramble in the box nearly resulted in a game winner, as Lauren Tanner and Sara Evans each recorded chances in tight, but Highlanders goalkeeper Cassia Souza held firm in the net.
- With time ticking down, the Toreros got a corner kick off with about eight seconds left on the clock, but the ball wouldn't find its way into the net, sealing a scoreless draw.
TORERO TIDBITS
- The Toreros outshot the Highlanders 18 to 4 on the night, matching last season's high in shots in a game.
- Sophine Kevorkian recorded her fourth career shutout and second against a Big West opponent, making two saves.
