Men’s Soccer Begins 2023 Season at Seattle

SAN DIEGO – The defending West Coast Conference champion San Diego men's soccer program (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WCC) is set to open their 2023 campaign, facing Seattle (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WAC) on Thursday night in Seattle.

The game will kick off at 4 p.m., and will be streamed via ESPN Plus.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • San Diego is aiming to become the first repeat WCC men's soccer champion since Saint Mary's in 2018 and 2019.
  • Three players were recently selected to the WCC's All-Preseason Team, as Mason Tunbridge, Trevor Dillon and Ross Johnstone led the way for the program.
  • As a team, the program was picked to finish second, just two votes behind Portland, but with equal amounts of first place votes (four).
  • The Toreros return several impact players from last season's roster, including reigning WCC Defender of the Year in Dillon, a First Team All-West Region honoree in Tunbridge and the 2022 WCC Freshman of the Year in Simon Duus Muller.
  • Tunbridge has generated plenty of early-season buzz, being named a United Soccer Coaches Midfielder to Watch and being tabbed to TopDrawerSoccer's top-100 players in the nation.
  • Head Coach Brian Quinn is also the reigning WCC Coach of the Year and will have six returning All-WCC contributors at his disposal in 2023.
  • The incoming class of freshmen and transfers was ranked as the No. 20 class in the nation according to TopDrawerSoccer.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • San Diego has only faced Seattle once in program history, dropping the lone meeting in Torero Stadium in 2018.
  • The Toreros are 5-4-1 all-time against current members of the WAC.
  • The members of the 2023 roster represent 10 U.S. states and six additional countries outside of the United States.
  • The Toreros feature 15 new players on the roster, with 10 freshmen and five transfers joining the fold.
