FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-5-1, 0-0-0 WCC) could not recover from an early deficit, falling 2-0, to Northern Arizona (4-2-2, 0-0-0 Big Sky) on Sunday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Arizona was able to strike for a game opening goal and never relinquished the lead.
- Allison Veloz scored in the seventh minute to give the Lumberjacks an early advantage.
- Brianna Pearson attempted to even the game, driving a shot from distance that missed just wide right in the 19th minute.
- The Toreros were able to keep the Lumberjacks in check after an early flurry of shots, but couldn't generate many opportunities on the other end.
- In the second half, a nice passing sequence got the ball on the feet of Pearson again, who fired a ball into the middle of the box and nearly found the head of Katie Baxter, who was barely beaten to the ball by the Lumberjacks goalkeeper punching it away.
- Northern Arizona extended their lead just over two minutes later, as Joey Lujan scored for the home side to make it 2-0.
- That would prove to be enough, as the Toreros were unable to answer the second half goal.
