SAN DIEGO — Sam Foust has been promoted and will serve as San Diego golf's associate head coach, head coach
Chris Riley announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Sam Foust's promotion from USD golf assistant coach to associate head coach," said Riley. "Sam continues to play a vital role in the success of our program. His work ethic, effective communication with players and recruits, and his knowledge of the game impresses me everyday. I am looking forward to continuing our pursuit of championships with Sam."
Since joining the Toreros as an assistant coach USD in 2021, Foust has helped lead San Diego to 11 Top-5 team finishes, four team wins, back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and alongside Riley has mentored three All-West Coast Conference selections.
Athletes under Foust's and Riley's instruction have also enjoyed success on the amateur circuit, with former San Diego standout Charlie Reiter qualifying for and competing in the 2022 U.S. Open and three current Toreros reaching the quarterfinals of the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship last month.
A native of Edina, Minnesota, Foust graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science Administration in June of 2019. He played golf under head coach Casey Martin, where he won a national championship (2016) and was a three-time winner of the UO Scholar-Athlete Award (2019, 2018, 2017). In August, he qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship as a player.
San Diego golf is set to open its 2023-2024 campaign on September 18 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, where it will compete in the USF Howard Intercollegiate.
