WCC Play Opens for Men’s Soccer Against San Francisco

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego men's soccer program (6-3-1, 0-0-0 WCC) begins their WCC title defense on Friday, hosting San Francisco (5-1-3, 0-0-0 WCC) in the WCC opener at 7 p.m., in Torero Stadium.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros took a tie game into the half, but ultimately dropped a 2-0 decision at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
  • Donovan Parisian made three saves in net, as the Toreros only allowed the game's first goal in the 74th minute.
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • San Diego starts its title defense, after going 6-0-1 in the WCC last season.
  • San Diego is seeking to become the WCC's first repeat champion since Saint Mary's in 2018 and 2019.
  • The last time the two sides met, the Toreros clinched the WCC title on San Francisco's home pitch, winning a 1-0 decision behind Nicklas Clausen's winner.
  • San Diego leads the all-time series 25-21-3 and have won four consecutive matchups.
  • The Toreros lead the WCC and rank 10th in the nation in total assists (23), while also ranking second in the WCC and 17th in the nation in total points (59) and 22nd in the NCAA in goals (18).

  • Samy Kanaan is one of 19 players in the nation with multiple game-winning goals and leads the Toreros in goals overall with four.
