Conference Play Begins for Women’s Soccer With Test at Gonzaga

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-8-1, 0-0-0 WCC) officially opens WCC play this weekend, traveling to Gonzaga (7-2-1, 0-0-0 WCC) for a 3 p.m., contest on Saturday in Spokane, Wash.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros once again scored the game's opening goal, but were unable to hold on to the lead, falling 2-1 in a non-conference game at LMU on Sept. 23.
  • Lexi Zandonella-Arasa scored her second goal of the season on the first collegiate assist by Jenn Hashimoto, but the Toreros allowed two first half goals shortly thereafter and were unable to equalize.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • San Diego leads Gonzaga 19-11 in the all-time series, but are seeking their first win against the Bulldogs since 2017.
  • San Diego's offense is slowly rounding into form, as four of their top-five shot outputs this season have come in the last five games. The Toreros have now scored in back-to-back games against California and LMU.
  • The newcomers have quickly inserted themselves into the offense, as three new players rank in the top-five on the team in shots (Olivia Stone and Zandonella-Arasa and Mikayla Abrenica).

TORERO TIDBITS
  • The Toreros rank 65th in the nation in shot accuracy, standing at .512.
  • Sophine Kevorkian (154) currently sits in ninth on San Diego's all-time saves list. Next up is Karen Cook (162) in eighth.
  • Kevorkian also stands in a tie for 10th on San Diego's all-time charts in career starts at goalkeeper with Ellyn Casto (28).
  • Kevorkian leads the WCC and ranks 21st in the nation in saves per game (5.80) and 23rd in total saves (58).
  • The sophomore is also coming off her fourth career performance of 10 or more saves and her second such game this season, after recording 10 at LMU.
