SAN DIEGO – The No. 12 San Diego men's soccer program (2-1-0, 0-0-0 WCC) continues their five-game homestand, hosting Cal Poly (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Big West) on Monday at 7 p.m., in Torero Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
- Despite a game-tying second half goal from Cesar Bahena, the Toreros were unable to hold on and fell, 3-1, to CSUN on Friday night at Torero Stadium.
- Bahena's goal came off a passing sequence from Vicente Ayala and Mason Tunbridge and tied the game early into the second half.
- However, CSUN scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to put away the contest.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Bahena is in the midst of a red-hot start to his sophomore season, leading the team with two goals and five points in the first three games.
- Bahena was recently selected as the WCC Offensive Player of the Week, following his three-point performance in Seattle, while goalkeeper Luis Ludosan was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week, after recording eight total saves and a shutout against Washington.
- In addition, Trevor Dillon also picked up some weekly hardware, by being named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week.
- San Diego is aiming to become the first repeat WCC men's soccer champion since Saint Mary's in 2018 and 2019.
- Three players were recently selected to the WCC's All-Preseason Team, as Tunbridge, Dillon and Ross Johnstone led the way for the program.
- Tunbridge was particularly dominant in last season's meeting against Cal Poly, tallying a hat trick in what was a 4-0 win in San Luis Obispo.
- As a team, the program was picked to finish second, just two votes behind Portland, but with equal amounts of first place votes (four).
TORERO TIDBITS
- San Diego is ranked No. 12 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches, good for their highest ranking in 11 years.
- Tunbridge now has 23 points in his last 24 games, dating back to Nov. 5, 2021 against Pacific.
- Denis Kelmendi's next game played will be the 50th of his career between San Diego and Seton Hall.
- Rhys Gourdie is closing in on 3,000 minutes played, needing just 84 to reach the mark.
