SPOKANE, Wash. – The San Diego women's soccer program (1-9-1, 0-1-0 WCC) fell into an early deficit and could not recover, falling 5-0 at Gonzaga (8-2-1, 1-0-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Luger Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gonzaga came out of the gates quickly and never looked back, taking a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, despite a strong early save by Sophine Kevorkian minutes before.
- San Diego had limited opportunities, but made a brief push for an equalizer, with shots from Bella Piete and Katie Baxter not finding their way on target.
- The Bulldogs would take a 2-0 lead into the half, but further extended it throughout the afternoon.
- Three more goals came between the 52nd and 60th minutes, as Gonzaga emerged with a 5-0 lead.
- Kamryn Simpson had a chance from outside the box in the 59th minute, but the Zags goalkeeper was up to the task.
- The Toreros nearly struck for a goal at the end of the game, as Olivia Stone fired a set piece into the box in the 87th minute that was headed home by Talei Moodie, but the offside flag was raised.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Ilise Medrano made her collegiate debut in the loss, recording two saves over 22 scoreless minutes of relief in goal.
