SAN DIEGO – Five members of the San Diego women's tennis program have been selected to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings, as the organization announced on Tuesday.
Three Toreros have been selected to the list of top-125 singles players in the nation, led by
Kailey Evans at No. 58.
Abigail Desiatnikov (No. 75) and
Claudia De Las Heras (No. 97) also earn preseason distinctions.
In doubles, Evans and her doubles partner from last season,
Elizabeth Goldsmith, have earned a preseason ranking of No. 11 in the nation. The duo reached the round of 16 at the 2023 NCAA Doubles Championship and were a first team All-WCC pairing. De Las Heras and
Jordyn McBride also landed in the top-50, coming in at No. 37.
The Toreros finished last season at 13-11 overall, reaching the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament under head coach
Nadia Abdala, who took home WCC Coach of the Year and ITA Southwest Region Coach of the Year honors.
San Diego returns nearly it's entire lineup from last season, while adding Miami transfer
Mia Mack to the equation. The Toreros will open the 2023-24 season this fall.
