HOW IT HAPPENED
- On a beautiful day in San Diego, the Toreros opened the season with a top-level opponent.
- Doubles got off to a strong start as Elizabeth Goldsmith and Mia Mack took a 5-0 lead on their No. 27 ranked opponents.
- However, the Cardinal were able to clinch the doubles point before Goldsmith and Mack could finish their match.
- While Stanford was able to get some quick, straight-set victories, the Toreros fought valiantly and forced three, third-set tiebreakers in the remaining matches.
- Despite Claudia De Las Heras falling in a 10-7 tiebreaker, Jordyn McBride and Bruu-Syversen each emerged with wins.
- McBride gave San Diego the first point by defeating 2023 U.S. Open Junior Champion Katherine Hui in a thrilling 10-8 tiebreaker.
- From there, Bruu-Syversen also won a thriller and took home her first ranked win in a Torero uniform, downing No. 50 Valencia Xu to add a second point to the Torero tally.
