SPOKANE, Wash. – The San Diego women's basketball program (4-13, 0-4 WCC) fell in the finale of the three-game road swing, falling 85-67 to No. 16 Gonzaga (16-2, 3-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Veronica Sheffey shined in the loss, scoring 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting, while
Kylie Horstmeyer added 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gonzaga opened on a 7-2 run, but the Toreros showed some early fight as Sheffey added four points and Horstmeyer recorded a three pointer to cut the Gonzaga lead to 12-11.
- However, the Zags would respond to reestablish an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
- The Bulldogs were able to hover around a 10 lead for much of the next two quarters, despite the strong play of Sheffey to keep the Toreros around.
- Melesungu Afeaki provided a late spark in the second quarter with four points in the last minute and helped the Toreros be down 43-33 at the break.
- Gonzaga came out of halftime quickly and expanded the lead to 19 just three minutes into the third quarter.
- Sheffey attempted to will the Toreros back in the contest with eight points in the period, but could not break the deficit lower than 14.
- The Bulldogs put the game away in the fourth quarter, despite Sheffey crossing the 20-point threshold for the second time this season.

- The Toreros tallied a season-best free throw percentage, going 15-for-18 (.833) at the line.
- In addition, the team finished with a season-low 10 turnovers in the loss.
