SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (4-14, 0-5 WCC) could not recover from a first half deficit, falling 75-48 to Pacific (11-7, 3-2 WCC) on Thursday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Veronica Sheffey led the way once again with 17 points, while
Kasey Neubert added eight points, a season-high 16 rebounds and six steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- San Diego was propelled early by Sheffey, who helped the Toreros keep it close through the first quarter.
- The Toreros generated most of their early chances at the free throw line, in what became a foul-heavy contest.
- Dylan Horton also added four points, but the Toreros trailed 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.
- After layups from Sheffey and Harsimran Kaur helped the Toreros keep the deficit the same through the first five minutes of the second quarter, Pacific would emerge with a 9-2 run to end the half.
- The Pacific lead would expand further, despite eight third quarter points from Sheffey.
- The Toreros could get the deficit no lower than 21 in the fourth quarter, as Pacific would go on to secure the win.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Neubert finished with six steals, good for the most by a Torero since Steph Gorman had nine against California Baptist on Mar. 17, 2022.
- Neubert also passed 700 career rebounds in the loss.
