SAN DIEGO – The No. 20 San Diego women's tennis program (1-1, 0-0 WCC) returns to action after their match postponement last weekend, traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by Florida.
The Toreros will open the event against Wake Forest (1-1, 0-0 ACC) on Saturday at 11 a.m., before playing either No. 8 Florida (1-0, 0-0 SEC) or Florida International (1-1, 0-0 C-USA) in the next round on Sunday. Should the Toreros win both matches, they will advance to the 2024 ITA Women's National Indoor Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego's scheduled matchup against Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 20 was postponed due to inclement weather.
- Prior to that, the Toreros earned the highest-ranked win in program history on Jan. 13, defeating No. 2 Texas A&M, 5-2.
- After clinching the doubles point, the Toreros built a quick 4-0 advantage to secure the win.
- Claudia De Las Heras and Mia Mack earned ranked victories over the No. 31 and No. 26 players in the nation, respectively.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- San Diego is 1-1 all-time against Wake Forest, with the two sides last meeting at the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend in Stillwater, Okla.
- The Toreros are 0-1 all-time against Florida and have never faced Florida International.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego rises in the top-25 for the second time this season, now checking in at No. 20 in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- The Toreros are led into the season by reigning WCC Coach of the Year Nadia Abdala, who enters her second season as head coach.
- San Diego was recently picked second in the WCC preseason poll, finishing only behind Pepperdine.
- In addition, De Las Heras and Elizabeth Goldsmith earned nods on the WCC's Preseason Team for the first time.
- The Toreros currently feature one player ranked in the ITA national rankings, with Mack checking in at No. 89 in singles.
- Freshman Kristina Nordikyan joins the program this semester as a newcomer and will be eligible to play this spring.
- Nordikyan was ranked as a five-star recruit at No. 43 in the nation and No. 9 in California by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

- De Las Heras and Goldsmith both recorded their 10th singles wins of the season against Texas A&M.
