GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 20 San Diego women's tennis program (2-1, 0-0 WCC) opened the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a bang, downing Wake Forest (1-2, 0-0 ACC), 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
 
With the win, the Toreros have advanced to face No. 8 Florida tomorrow in the championship match.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Toreros faced early adversity, as Wake Forest earned early break points in two doubles matches and struck for the first win at No. 2 doubles.
• However, Kailey Evans and Kristina Nordikyan were able to rally at No. 3 doubles, while Mia Mack and Elizabeth Goldsmith finally broke through to take their match 7-5.
• After a lengthy, 10-8 tiebreaker, Evans and Nordikyan emerged with a win to secure the doubles point.
• That helped generate positive momentum into singles, as Mack, Goldsmith, Abigail Desiatnikov and Filippa Bruu-Syversen each took the first sets of their matches.
• Mack continued her strong start to 2024 by clinching the first match.
• From there, Desiatnikov and Goldsmith each powered through their second sets, as their teammates rallied in their respective matches.

• The Toreros will compete for a spot in the 2024 ITA Women's Indoor National Championships, facing No. 8 Florida on Saturday at 11 a.m.
