CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the biggest regatta of the year, the San Diego 4+ shined, winning their Head of the Charles River Regatta race Sunday by a comfortable margin, the first title at rowing's most prestigious event in program history.
The 4+ of senior
Derek Hissong (S), senior
Sam Pigott, junior
Rex Bales, junior
Aidan Andrzejewski (B) and sophomore
Jonah McDonnell (Cox.) won the Men's Collegiate Fours championship by 26.85 seconds, leading through each of the checkpoints on Boston's famous Charles River.
Also on the day, the other San Diego qualified boat, the 8+, finished 27
th in the highly touted Men's Collegiate Eights field of 42.
Hard off-season work paid off for the Toreros in what was the first race of the fall for San Diego Men's Rowing. While the 4+ came in first out of 42 on Sunday, it wasn't the first time Toreros had been on the podium. USD Men's Rowing boats have claimed third in 2017.
Toreros will be back in action this weekend for their second regatta on the fall slate, at the Head of the American in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
