No. 4 San Diego Shuts-Out San Francisco

No. 4 Toreros take down Dons 1-0 at Negoesco Stadium

SAN FRANCISCO — No. 4 San Diego men's soccer (11-1-2, 5-0 WCC) came out victorious in a hard-fought scrappy battle at Negoesco Stadium on Wednesday night, beating San Francisco (5-6-3, 3-1-1 WCC) by a 1-0 margin behind a remarkable performance from USD goalkeeper Donovan Parisian and a second half goal from Steven Ramirez

After a scoreless first half of play the Toreros scored the lone goal of the night in the 50th minute on an impressive set piece that was finished by Ramirez, before holding off the Dons for the remaining 40 minutes of play to earn the victory.

USD's intense defensive resilience was headlined by a trio of clutch saves in the second half from Parisian — in what marked the best performance of his career. He finished the night with seven total saves to give him his second consecutive clean sheet and fourth of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wednesday evening's contest started off chippy as both teams recorded multiple fouls in the opening ten minutes of play.
  • The Toreros could not find the target in the opening period, but successfully kept the Dons off the board to keep the score 0-0 at the break.
  • Luca Fava whipped a set piece towards the back post in the 50th minute that found Oliver Rhoades who then played the ball over the middle for Ramirez to smash it home and give San Diego a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
  • USF earned a corner in the 60th minute that resulted in a header towards the bottom left corner of the net, but Parisian made a clutch full extension save to keep the Dons off the board.
  • San Francisco continued the pressure through the final 30 minutes of play but acrobatic saves in the 69th and 74th minutes from Parisian stopped a pair of scoring opportunities for the Dons, keeping them scoreless through the remainder of the game.
TORERO TIDBITS
  • San Francisco, fresh off a 2-0 victory over then No. 2 Stanford were the second consecutive unbeaten conference opponent that San Diego has beaten and shut-out after the Toreros took down Oregon State at home on Saturday evening.
  • Seven total saves is a career high for Parisian, who now has 13 saves in his last three matches in goal for USD.
  • Ramirez's 50th minute goal is his third of the season, and first since he scored on Sep. 28 against Saint Mary's.
  • Rhoades earned his second assist of the season, while Fava's assist was the fourth for him in 2024.
  • The Toreros (5-0 WCC) remain undefeated in West Coast Conference play with three games to play.
