OGDEN, Utah – Following their dominant win in the season opener, the San Diego women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 WCC) is back in action Tuesday night as they will face the Weber State Wildcats (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) for a 5:00 p.m. PST tip-off at the Dee Events Center.
The Toreros will be facing Weber State for the second time in as many seasons, as they bested the Wildcats last November at Jenny Craig Pavilion by a 56-53 final score.
LAST TIME OUT
- Opening up the 2024-25 campaign on their home floor, San Diego put together a strong team effort to best Biola by a 75-30 margin. Marking the fourth year in a row that USD has begun their season with a win.
- Helping to lead the way for her team was senior Kylie Horstmeyer, who did it all in the win over the Eagles as she scored eight points to go along with six rebounds, five steals and four assists as she was a game best +30 in her minutes.
- Making a strong statement in her first game as a Torero, Truitt Reilly scored 12 points in her 21 minutes of action while grabbing seven boards and blocking a pair of shots against Biola.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- Tuesday night's game in Utah will be the seventh ever meeting between the two sides as San Diego holds the all-time series lead at 5-1, and have won five straight games against Weber State.
- The last time the two squads met in Ogden was a 59-50 Torero victory back on Dec. 6, 2014.
- In last season's game at Jenny Craig Pavilion, the two team's faced off in a low-scoring battle as San Diego emerged victorious by a 56-53 final score. Veronica Sheffey led the way for USD as she scored a team-high 17 points in 32 minutes of action.
- San Diego's defense held up strong throughout that performance as they held the Wildcats to 37% shooting from the field and forced 14 turnovers.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Weber State enters play with a 1-1 record early in the season as they bested Park Gilbert at home and lost in a route to Utah in their last time out.
- Leading the Wildcats' offense through the first two games has been sophomore forward Taylor Smith who's averaged 10 PPG and 5.5 rebounds through the first two games of the season.
- As a team, the Wildcats have looked to shoot from beyond the arc to start the season as they've attempted 54 three-point shots and knocked down 15 of them for a 29% team three point shooting percentage.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Tuesday night's game will mark the first of three straight games on the road for USD as they will take on UNLV on Nov. 19 and then will face UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 24.
- In USD's opener against Biola, the Toreros played 13 of the 14 eligible players on the roster with 12 of the 13 scoring at least two points in the complete team victory.
- San Diego head coach Cindy Fisher enters this game just one win away for 400 in her career, as she enters play with 399 victories in her time at both San Diego and Wyoming.
