Toreros Set to Host 2024 Thanksgiving Classic

SAN DIEGO – Returning home for the first time in more than three weeks, the San Diego women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 WCC) is set to host a big weekend of hoops at Jenny Craig Pavilion for the 2024 Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30.

There will be two games played on each day as the Toreros will face both Nebraska Omaha (2-4, 0-0 Summit) and Alabama A&M (3-2, 0-0 SWAC). Utah Valley (5-1, 0-0 WAC) will also compete against those two opponents on USD's home floor.

San Diego will play at 2:00 p.m. against the Mavericks on Friday,  and will tip-off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

  • USD is looking to bounce back from a 71-63 overtime loss against UC Santa Barbara on the road that featured a tremendous second half comeback to extend the game.
  • San Diego had three players reach double figures in scoring against the Gauchos as Kylie Horstmeyer scored 17 points while Truitt Reilly and Ava Ranson contributed 12 points of their own.
  • Reilly had a strong individual performance as she had her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds at UCSB.

OPPONENT HISTORY

  • San Diego will be facing both Nebraska Omaha and Alabama A&M for the first time in each program's history.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS

  • Nebraska Omaha has begun their season with a 2-4 overall record with a victory over College of Saint Mary and Utah State.
  • Leading the Mavericks' offense in the early portion of the season is guard Grace Cave, who's averaging 13.0 PPG and 3.2 assists per game and is someone the Toreros will be looking to slow down.
  • Defensively, Nebraska Omaha has struggled to limit their opponents' offensive efficiency with a 46% opposing team's field goal percentage. The Mavericks have performed slightly better against the outside shot with opposing team's making 35% of their attempts from the three-point line.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

  • Alabama A&M has posted a 3-2 overall record to begin their season with victories over Eastern Michigan, Kansas City and Alabama-Huntsville.
  • The Bulldogs enter the weekend with three players averaging double figures in scoring as Kalia Walker is leading the way with 12.6 PPG to go along with three rebounds per game.
  • Not fearing the road at all in the early portion of the season, Alabama A&M is a perfect 2-0 away from their home floor.
