Donovan Parisian and Samy Kanaan Selected in 2025 MLS SuperDraft

SAN DIEGO – On Friday afternoon, a pair of San Diego men's soccer student-athletes were selected in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. USD sophomore goalkeeper Donovan Parisian was taken in the first round at 18th overall by the New England Revolution, while junior forward Samy Kanaan was picked in the second round at 56th overall by the league's newest franchise San Diego FC.

Parisian, was named the 2024 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year following his standout season in goal, where he started in 16 matches and allowed just 11 goals while corralling 39 saves in the cage for the Toreros. He was also an All-WCC First Team selection for his stellar season that included eight clean sheets as he helped lead San Diego to the Third Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Donovan was the first Torero to be picked in the first round of the draft since Miguel Berry was taken seventh overall by the Columbus Crew in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. Parisian twice matched his career-high with seven saves in 1-0 victories over both San Franicsco and Duke on the road in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Kanaan, had a tremendous season in 2024 as he led the Toreros in both goals and points on his way to an All-WCC First Team selection. Garnering national attention for his phenomenal third year at USD, Samy was also named by the United Soccer Coaches as a Third Team All-American after scoring nine goals and totaling 20 points for San Diego.

Helping to lead his team in a huge conference match, Kanaan scored a pair of first half goals in front of 2,107 fans at Torero Stadium as San Diego bested Oregon State 2-0 to take sole control of first place in the WCC. Samy also netted the game-winner to help USD clinch their third straight conference title in a 1-0 road victory over LMU to wrap up the regular season.

In total, the West Coast Conference had nine student-athletes selected with five going in the first round. Oregon State, San Diego and Portland were the only teams to have multiple student-athletes selected in this year's draft.

San Diego men's soccer team will enter the 2025 season seeking their fourth straight West Coast Conference title after recording their most wins in a season since 2000. Stay tuned to the team's website for more updates ahead of the fall season.
