Women’s Basketball Faces Pepperdine, LMU This Week

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (5-18, 1-9 WCC) is set for two key WCC matchups this week, traveling to face Pepperdine (5-19, 1-10 WCC), on Thursday at 6 p.m., before hosting LMU (9-14, 4-7 WCC) on Saturday at 2 p.m., at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Despite a career-high from Harsimran Kaur, the Toreros dropped a road decision at Santa Clara last Thursday.
  • Kaur shined with a career-high 18 points, along with four rebounds.
  • Three Toreros went into double figures in the game, but the Broncos rode some hot shooting to a win.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego is back in action against Pepperdine for the second time this season and trail by a slim 42-47 margin in the all-time series.
  • The Toreros dropped a nailbiter to the Waves back in January, falling 53-52 with a pair of late game-tying or game-winning shots falling just short.
  • San Diego is 53-32 all-time against LMU but will look to avenge a loss up in Los Angeles on Jan. 20.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Dylan Horton and Kasey Neubert are on the chase for 1,000 points in their collegiate careers, as both will have tight finishes for the milestone.
  • Horton (948) needs 52 more points, while Neubert (874) needs 126.
  • A key determining factor for the success of the Toreros is the disbursement of scoring, as the team has won all of their games when at least three or more players score in double figures.
  • Sheffey ranks third in the WCC and 43rd in the nation in assists (118) and third in the WCC and 35th nationally in assists per game (5.1).
  • Her start in the assist category is potentially historic, as only two Toreros have ever averaged over five assists per game over a full season (Amanda Rego (twice) and Lori Morris).
  • In addition, Sheffey continues to rank among the top five in the WCC in free throw attempts, made free throws and free throw percentage.
  • Neubert continues to average a double-double per game and has eight over 17 games this season. She ranks 50th nationally and third in the WCC in double-doubles.
  • Neubert also ranks second in the WCC and 33rd in the nation in rebounds per game (9.8), as well as fifth in the conference in total rebounds (176).
  • Kaur ranks second in the WCC in blocks per game (1.17) and third in total blocks (27).

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Head coach Cindy Fisher is closing in on 400 wins in her career, standing at 394 between San Diego and Wyoming.
  • Sheffey needs six more assists to enter the single season top-10 at San Diego in total assists.
  • The Toreros rank second in the WCC in offensive rebounds per game (12.7).
  • Four of the team's five wins have come when the Toreros shoot over 50 percent from the field as a unit.
