Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 18 San Diego men's tennis program (5-1, 1-0 WCC) earned their first WCC win of the season, downing San Francisco (2-2, 0-1 WCC), 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Goldman Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Toreros were able to secure an early advantage, as the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week of Oliver Tarvet and Iiro Vasa earned a win in their first match at No. 1 doubles.
- From there, the first dual match of the season for Christian Kuehne proved fruitful, as Kuehne and Stian Klaassen won a 7-6 (5) decision to put San Diego in front 1-0.
- Singles proved to be smooth sailing for the visiting Toreros, who quickly jumped out to big leads.
- Fresh off a WCC Singles Player of the Week honor, Lambert Ruland cruised in a dual match once again, winning by a comfortable, 6-1, 6-0 margin at No. 2 singles.
- Tarvet was right behind him with a victory to improve to 17-2 this season.
- In the end, Vasa and Savriyan Danilov both secured their matches at the same time and polished off five quick points for the Toreros.
