SAN DIEGO – The No. 16 San Diego men's tennis program (6-1, 0-0 WCC) returns home for a pair of non-conference showdowns, hosting Cal Poly (2-2, 0-0 Big West) on Friday at 12 p.m., and No. 42 Oregon (9-2, 0-0 PAC-12) on Sunday at 12 p.m., at the Hogan Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego earned a gritty road victory at California, winning 4-1 on Feb. 18 in Berkeley, Calif.
- The Toreros won the doubles point and got a quick win from Sacchitt Sharrma, before winning a pair of three-set matches.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- San Diego is 11-1 all-time against Cal Poly, winning the last meeting back on Feb. 5, 2021.
- San Diego is 2-1 all-time against Oregon, winning the last meeting in Eugene, back on Feb. 19, 2023.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego moves up to No. 16 in the nation, good for their highest national ranking since February of 2016.
- The Toreros have had at least one weekly WCC award winner in four of the first five weeks of the season and swept the last three weeks.
- Oliver Tarvet leads the way for the Toreros in the national rankings, checking in at No. 5 in the nation in singles according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings
- Iiro Vasa ranks No. 89 in the nation in singles, while Stian Klaassen and Sharrma check in at No. 12 in the country in doubles.
- Tarvet has already tallied two WCC Singles Player of the Week honors and has maintained a strong grip on the No. 1 singles position, entering the weekend at 17-3 overall.
- In addition, Tarvet and Vasa are the three-time reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, following their big wins at San Francisco and California.
