PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The San Diego softball program (2-10, 0-0 WCC) dropped a pair of games on day one of the Mary Nutter Classic, falling 8-0 to Wisconsin (6-7, 0-0 Big Ten) and 8-1 to No. 20 Utah (7-4, 0-0 PAC-12) on Friday night at the Big League Dreams Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WISCONSIN 8, SAN DIEGO 0 (F/6)
- The two teams opened the game with quick three-and-out innings, but Wisconsin would be the first to strike.
- The Badgers scored two runs on a solo home run and sacrifice fly in the second inning and another run in the third to lead 3-0.
- After an additional run in the fourth inning, the Toreros attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Mikalyn Emanuelli led off the frame with a single and Michelle Delgado reached on a fielding error.
- Taylor Johnson was then hit by a pitch to give San Diego the bases loaded with one out.
- However, San Diego would not be able to score, allowing Wisconsin to continue to build the lead.
- The Badgers struck for three runs in the fifth and then added another in the sixth inning to put the game away.

HOW IT HAPPENED – NO. 20 UTAH 8, SAN DIEGO 1
- The Utes would build an insurmountable lead in the first inning, scoring five runs in the opening inning and another three runs in the second.
- San Diego had a chance to score early in the second inning, as Johnson laced a double and Shawnese Hogue-Lacy reached on an error to put runners on the corners with no one out.
- Nevertheless, Utah escaped with the lead intact and no runs crossing the plate.
- After several scoreless frames from Mo Wimpee in the circle, the Toreros would break through in the fifth inning.
- Tele Jennings led off with a walk and Arisa Tovar doubled to give San Diego more runners in scoring position.
- Carly Ruiz would single and drive in a run on a high chopper that forced Utah into an error to make it 8-1.
- However, the Toreros would leave two runners in scoring position in the frame.
- San Diego had one last chance in the seventh inning, as a Jennings walk, Ruiz single and Emanuelli walk loaded the bases for Joecellia Roberts, but the junior struck out to end the game.

- Ruiz tallied a career-high three hits in the loss to Utah.
