SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (0-1, 0-0 WCC) dropped their season-opener on Thursday evening, falling 5-0 to Idaho State (1-0, 0-0 Big Sky) at the USD Softball Complex. Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Idaho State was first on the board in the first inning, after a pop up got lost in the sun and fell for a triple, setting up the Bengals to score an early run.
- San Diego got their first opportunity to score in the second inning, when Tele Jennings delivered her first collegiate hit with a double to center field, before moving to third base on a sacrifice fly.
- However, Jennings would be stranded at third base, keeping the score at 1-0.
- The third inning was also promising for the Toreros, as Amanda Limon doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Mikalyn Emanuelli.
- Nevertheless, Limon was picked off at third base and the Toreros came up empty.
- The Bengals extended their lead in the fourth inning off a three-run home run, putting the Toreros in a corner.
- San Diego nearly had a response in the bottom half of the inning, as Shawnese Hogue-Lacy and Arisa Tovar tallied back-to-back singles, before Carly Ruiz drew a walk to load the bases.
- However, the Toreros would leave the bases loaded.
- Idaho State tallied one more run for insurance, as the Toreros were unable to get any runs back late in the game.

TORERO TIDBITS
- Jennings, Ruiz, Lauren Asia and Dalia Powell all made their collegiate debuts in the loss.
- Kelsey Tadlock tallied a career-high five strikeouts over three innings of relief in the circle.
- Jennings is the first Torero to record an extra-base hit in their debut on opening day since Limon hit a triple in 2021.
