SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (0-3, 0-0 WCC) dropped a pair of games on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 to Maryland (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) and 19-0 to No. 8 Texas (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) at Easton Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MARYLAND 4, SAN DIEGO 0
- The Toreros fended off an early challenge from the Terrapins, as Kelsey Tadlock stranded the bases loaded in the opening inning.
- Mikalyn Emanuelli drew a first inning walk, but the Toreros were unable to strike for a run.
- Maryland loaded the bases for the second straight inning, but were able to get a two-run, two-out single to make it 2-0.
- Tadlock would keep Maryland off the scoreboard the next two innings, but the Toreros were unable to break through on offense.
- The Terrapins added some insurance in the sixth inning to make it 4-0.
- San Diego got one last chance in the bottom half of the frame, as Emanuelli and Amanda Limon reached, but a double play killed the momentum.
HOW IT HAPPENED – NO. 8 TEXAS 19, SAN DIEGO 0 (F/5)
- The day started strong for Courtney Rose, who struck out three batters in the first inning, but Texas was able to score with the help of an error and a two RBI single.
- However, the Longhorns began to assert their will as the game went on, adding three more runs in the second inning.
- Arisa Tovar drew a walk in the second inning to try and jump start the offense but Texas stranded her on the basepaths.
- As Texas expanded the lead, the Toreros tried to add more late in the game.
- Natalie McCliman reached on a throwing error and Joecellia Roberts reached in the fifth inning, but that was all San Diego could muster.

- The Toreros will wrap up play at the Stacy Winsberg Tournament, facing No. 10 UCLA at 11 a.m., and No. 8 Texas at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
