HOW IT HAPPENED – RUTGERS 13, SAN DIEGO 2 (F/6)
- A first pitch bunt single for the Scarlet Knights would set the tone for the visitors, who came out with more energy than on Friday.
- Rutgers tallied two runs in the opening frame, before tacking on an additional three runs in the third inning to lead 5-0.
- San Diego was able to get some momentum in the bottom half of the third inning, as EJ Joyner walked and advanced to second on a failed pick-off attempt.
- Mikalyn Emanuelli was able to put a ball in play later that inning that went through the legs of the first baseman and into right field, allowing Joyner to score and make it 5-1.
- Emanuelli promptly stole second base, before Amanda Limon singled her home to cut the lead to 5-2.
- However, Rutgers got out of the inning by inducing a groundout.
- After a scoreless fourth inning in the circle for Courtney Rose, the Scarlet Knights were able to get two runs in the fifth, as a double scraped the right field line and drove in a pair.
- Ultimately, Rutgers would further expand the lead in the sixth and closed out the game.
