SAN DIEGO – The No. 12 San Diego men's tennis program (13-2, 1-0 WCC) is back in action for another ranked matchup on Monday morning, hosting No. 45 SMU (13-6, 2-0 AAC) at 11 a.m., at the Hogan Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego won three matches in three days, culminating in a 4-2 victory over No. 22 Arizona State on Mar. 17, to win the Ed Collins Spring Classic.
- San Diego rallied after dropping the doubles point to defeat the Sun Devils for the second time this season, as Savriyan Danilov earned the clinching victory.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego stands tied with their highest ranking in program history, ranking No. 12 in the nation according to the latest ITA rankings.
- Oliver Tarvet took home yet another WCC Singles Player of the Week honor, following his second win this season over No. 3 Murphy Cassone to help San Diego win the Ed Collins Spring Classic.
- The Toreros have had at least one weekly WCC award winner in seven of the first nine weeks of the season and swept four weeks.
- Tarvet leads the way for the Toreros in the national rankings, checking in at No. 7 in the nation in singles according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
- Iiro Vasa ranks No. 100 in the nation in singles, while Stian Klaassen and Sacchitt Sharrma check in at No. 60 in the country in doubles.
- Tarvet has already tallied three WCC Singles Player of the Week honors and has maintained a strong grip on the No. 1 singles position, entering the weekend at 21-5 overall.
- In addition, Tarvet has taken home five WCC Doubles Team of the Week awards, tallying three with Vasa and his last two with Klaassen.
