SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (10-26, 0-0 WCC) earned a doubleheader split on Wednesday, downing Arizona State (18-15, 2-7 PAC-12), 7-4 in game one, before falling 3-2 in nine innings in game two at the USD Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SAN DIEGO 7, ARIZONA STATE 4
- While the visitors opened the first inning with a hit-by-pitch and home run, the Toreros would be not be swayed and found success on the offensive end.
- Amanda Limon led off the first inning with a single and Taylor Johnson immediately followed with an RBI double to make it 2-1.
- While the Toreros stranded a runner at third in the second inning, they retook the lead in the third.
- Johnson tallied her second consecutive double to lead off the inning, before Joecellia Roberts launched a two-run home to right center field to make it 3-2 in favor of the Toreros.
- Arizona State would retake the lead in the fifth inning at 4-3, but the Toreros would not quit.
- Walks by Johnson and Roberts and a hit-by-pitch drawn by Tele Jennings loaded the bases for pinch-hitter EJ Joyner.
- Joyner broke the game open with a bases-clearing, three RBI triple down the right field line to put San Diego ahead 6-4.
- After a scoreless frame, the Toreros added insurance in the sixth inning, as Limon doubled and Johnson singled to set up Roberts.
- Roberts lined a single to left field to increase the lead to 7-4.
- The Sun Devils brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning and Courtney Rose would re-enter after pitching 4.2 innings to open the day.
- The Castro Valley, Calif., native shut the door on the Arizona State rally with a strikeout to secure the save and the win for the Toreros.

HOW IT HAPPENED – ARIZONA STATE 3, SAN DIEGO 2 (F/9)
- Game two opened in a similar manner, as Arizona State struck first following a lead-off triple and RBI sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
- However, both offenses would face a more uphill climb in game two, as Mo Wimpee led the way for San Diego in the circle.
- Following the run, Wimpee would go the next 4.2 innings without allowing a hit and kept Arizona State at bay.
- However, the Sun Devils tallied an RBI single with two outs in the sixth inning to put pressure on San Diego.
- Despite out-hitting the Sun Devils for the entire game, the Toreros would only get their breakthrough in the seventh inning.
- Mikalyn Emanuelli walked and Michelle Delgado delivered a bunt single, before Shawnese Hogue-Lacy moved Emanuelli to third to set up the top of the order.
- Johnson would deliver another key RBI single to cut the Arizona State lead to 2-1.
- Roberts was next up and delivered a game-tying RBI single of her own, to ultimately force extra innings.
- However, Arizona State would score a run in the ninth inning and leave two Toreros stranded on the bases in the bottom half of the frame to secure the win.

TORERO TIDBITS
- Limon extended her hitting streak and on-base streak to 12 consecutive games and Johnson extended her on-base streak to 12 games.
- With two doubles on the day, Johnson (13) moved into a tie for sixth on the Toreros all-time single season doubles list, matching Virginia Fritsch (2007) and Nichole Valenzuela (2007).
- Roberts becomes the first Torero to secure back-to-back 20 RBI seasons since Sara Silveyra and Lindsay Clare in 2018 and 2019.
- With her start, Rose (118) took sole possession of second on the Toreros all-time pitching appearances list. The program record holder is Colleen Norman (138).
- With her five strikeouts, Rose (315) moved into sole possession of sixth on the Toreros all-time strikeout list. Next up is Madison Earnshaw (316) in fifth.
- Wimpee tallied a career-high nine innings pitched in game two.
- The trio of Limon, Johnson and Roberts in the No. 1-3 hole hit a combined .542 (13-for-24) with a home run, three doubles and six RBI in the doubleheader.
