SAN DIEGO – The No. 12 San Diego men's tennis program (14-2, 1-0 WCC) are set for a key WCC clash, hosting No. 39 Pepperdine (7-9, 1-0 WCC) on Friday at 1 p.m., at the Hogan Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego polished off a tremendous non-conference season with a 4-1 win over No. 45 SMU on Monday.
- After securing the doubles point, the Toreros won a trio of straight set victories.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego stands tied with their highest ranking in program history, ranking No. 12 in the nation according to the latest ITA rankings.
- The Toreros have had at least one weekly WCC award winner in seven of the first 10 weeks of the season and swept four weeks.
- Oliver Tarvet leads the way for the Toreros in the national rankings, checking in at No. 7 in the nation in singles according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
- Iiro Vasa ranks No. 100 in the nation in singles, while Stian Klaassen and Sacchitt Sharrma check in at No. 60 in the country in doubles.
- Tarvet has already tallied three WCC Singles Player of the Week honors and has maintained a strong grip on the No. 1 singles position, entering the weekend at 22-5 overall.
- In addition, Tarvet has taken home five WCC Doubles Team of the Week awards, tallying three with Vasa and his last two with Klaassen.
- The sophomore is also 16-1 in doubles overall, including an undefeated record with Klaassen.
