SAN DIEGO – San Diego women's basketball guard
Veronica Sheffey has earned All-WCC Second Team honors, as the West Coast Conference announced their annual postseason awards on Tuesday.

Hailing from Woodinville, Wash., Sheffey is in the midst of a career-best season as a sophomore, as she leads the Toreros in scoring at 12.3 points per game. In addition, Sheffey has tallied 148 assists so far this season, which now ranks fourth on the Toreros single-season assists list. The total is the most by any Torero in 16 years.

Sheffey (5.1 APG) is seeking to become the third Torero ever to finish at 5.0 assists per game or higher and ranks 35th nationally in assists per game and 40th in total assists.

Sheffey earns her first All-WCC honors after being named to the WCC's All-Freshman Team last season and improved in an expanded role this season, where she has scored in double figures in 21 games so far this season. Overall, Sheffey is averaging 12.3 points per game, 5.1 assists per game, 3.3 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals per game.

Sheffey and the Toreros will tip-off at the Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday against the No. 9 seed Pepperdine at 12 p.m.
