SAN DIEGO – The San Diego women's basketball program (8-21, 4-12 WCC) is set to open the postseason, competing at the Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship and opening with No. 9 seed Pepperdine (5-24, 1-15 WCC) on Thursday at 12 p.m., at the Orleans Arena.
 
LAST TIME OUT

• San Diego came just seconds away from a key road win, falling 68-66 at San Francisco to end the regular season.
• It was a career-day for Jess Finney, who tallied a career-high 23 points, including a game-tying three pointer with just 15 seconds remaining in the game.
• Dylan Horton and Harsimran Kaur also tallied 13 and 11 points, respectively.

 
OPPONENT HISTORY

• San Diego opens the tournament with Pepperdine and trail 43-47 in the all-time series.
• The two sides have met twice this season, with each side earning a road victory.
• San Diego won the last matchup, 69-49 on Feb. 15 in Malibu, Calif.
• The two teams last met in the WCC Tournament in the 2020 semifinals, where San Diego emerged with a 59-44 win.

• San Diego went 4-4 in the month of February and are playing some of their best basketball at the right time, with wins over the No. 4, No. 6, No. 7 and No. 9 seeded programs in the WCC Tournament.
• Kasey Neubert (939) is on the chase for 1,000 points in her collegiate career and needs 61.
• A key determining factor for the success of the Toreros is the disbursement of scoring, as the team has won all of their games when at least three or more players score in double figures.
• Veronica Sheffey ranks third in the WCC and 35th nationally in assists per game (5.1), while ranking 40th nationally in total assists (148).
• Her start in the assist category is potentially historic, as only two Toreros have ever averaged over five assists per game over a full season (Amanda Rego (twice) and Lori Morris).
• Neubert continues to average nearly a double-double per game and has 12 over 24 games this season. She ranks 38th nationally and second in the WCC in double-doubles.
• Neubert also ranks second in the WCC and 38th in the nation in rebounds per game (9.8), as well as third in the conference in total rebounds (235).
• Kaur ranks third in the WCC in blocks per game (1.03).

• Head coach Cindy Fisher is closing in on 400 wins in her career, standing at 397 between San Diego and Wyoming.
