SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (6-15, 0-0 WCC) put together a complete offensive performance, powering past UC San Diego (4-15, 0-0 Big West) 8-5 in a rain-shortened five innings on Wednesday night at the USD Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visitors were able to manufacture a first inning run, as their leadoff batter scored on a single, stolen base, advancement to third and a sacrifice fly.
- However, the Toreros offense would find its rhythm in the second inning.
- After two quick outs, Mikalyn Emanuelli reached on a throwing error to kick start the lineup.
- EJ Joyner singled and Kaitlyn Wynia walked to load the bases for Tele Jennings.
- The freshman delivered with an infield RBI single that that was thrown away by the shortstop, allowing all three runners to score and put San Diego up 3-1.
- Taylor Johnson promptly drove Jennings home with an RBI single and Michelle Delgado added more with an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1.
- After a scoreless third inning, the Tritons nearly followed the same path as the Toreros, and responded with two outs in the fourth inning to score four runs.
- However, Courtney Rose would come into the game and shut the door to keep the game at 5-5.
- The Toreros had an immediate response in the bottom half of the inning, as Wynia singled, Jennings doubled and Johnson walked to load the bases with no outs.
- Delgado would deliver the go-ahead run on an RBI fielder's choice to make It 6-5, then stole second base.
- Arisa Tovar would help create a cushion with an RBI grounder that was misplayed by the second baseman and allowed San Diego to lead 7-5.
- After a composed inning by Rose, the rain began to increase, but the Toreros were able to get more in the fifth inning, as Shawnese Hogue-Lacy led off the frame with a triple.
- Emanuelli drove in Hogue-Lacy with an infield single to make it 8-5 and then stole second base.
- However, the rain would become too much, as the game was ultimately called after five innings and secured a Torero win.

TORERO TIDBITS
- With her relief appearance, Rose (108) matched Cassidy Coleman for fifth on the Toreros all-time pitching appearances list.
- Wynia tallied the first hit of her collegiate career in the win, reaching three times in her first college start.
- Johnson extended her on-base streak to 11 straight games in the win.
