SAN DIEGO – The No. 15 San Diego men's tennis program (17-3, 4-1 WCC) enters their final stretch of regular season matches, hosting Portland (9-6, 3-2 WCC) on Saturday at 12 p.m., and Gonzaga (7-7, 2-2 WCC) on Sunday at 12 p.m., at the Hogan Tennis Center.
Saturday's match will be in partnership with AlzTogether and the Alzheimer's Association.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego dropped a 4-3 decision as part of a 2-1 road trip that also included wins at No. 53 Santa Clara and Saint Mary's.
- Stian Klaassen remained red hot with yet another singles win, but the Toreros could not clinch the match in a tiebreaker.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- San Diego checks in as the No. 15 team in the nation according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
- Sacchitt Sharrma and Iiro Vasa enter the week as the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, after a 3-0 stretch that saw them earned a ranked victory at Pacific.
- The Toreros have had at least one weekly WCC award winner in nine of the first 12 weeks of the season and swept four weeks.
- Oliver Tarvet leads the way for the Toreros in the national rankings, remaining at No. 5 in the nation in singles according to the latest ITA rankings.
- Vasa ranks No. 91 in the nation in singles, while Klaassen and Sharrma check in at No. 66 in the country in doubles.
- Sharrma and Vasa have also entered the national rankings this week at No. 82.
- Tarvet has already tallied four WCC Singles Player of the Week honors and has maintained a strong grip on the No. 1 singles position, entering the weekend at 23-5 overall.
- In addition, Tarvet has taken home five WCC Doubles Team of the Week awards, tallying three with Vasa and his last two with Klaassen.
- The sophomore is also 18-1 in doubles overall, including an undefeated record with Klaassen.
- San Diego has responded with a win in both matches following a loss this season.
