No. 18 Men’s Tennis Set for WCC Tournament

SAN DIEGO – The No. 18 San Diego men's tennis program (20-3, 7-1 WCC) looks to officially lock in their place in the NCAA Tournament, as they are set to compete in the 2024 WCC Tournament, at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
 
The Toreros enter as the No. 1 seed and will face No. 5 seed Santa Clara (18-6, 4-4 WCC) in the semifinal. Should the Toreros win, they will face either No. 2 seed Pepperdine (13-10, 7-1 WCC) or No. 3 seed Pacific (17-4, 5-3 WCC) on Saturday at 10 a.m., in the final.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • San Diego polished off a share of their eighth regular season title in the last 10 years, by steamrolling to a 4-0 win over LMU on Apr. 20.
  • The Toreros benefited from an early retirement in doubles and rolled through singles matches in quick succession.
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • The Toreros are seeking their first WCC Tournament title since 2022, after falling in last season's final.
  • San Diego is set to face Santa Clara in the WCC Tournament for the first time since the Toreros beat the Broncos in the 2019 championship match.
  • San Diego checks in as the No. 18 team in the nation according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
  • San Diego dominated the end of season WCC honors, as Oliver Tarvet headlined the list as the WCC Player of the Year.
  • Tarvet, Stian Klaassen, Lambert Ruland, Iiro Vasa and Savriyan Danilov all took home All-WCC singles honors, while Klaassen and Tarvet and Sacchitt Sharrma and Vasa earned All-WCC doubles honors.
  • Blake Kasday and Sharrma ended the regular season by being named the WCC Doubles Team of the Week. It was the first such award for Kasday.
  • The Toreros have had at least one weekly WCC award winner in 11 of the 14 weeks of the season and swept four weeks.

  • Tarvet has taken home five WCC Doubles Team of the Week awards, tallying three with Vasa and his last two with Klaassen.

  • Tarvet is 11-4 overall against ranked opponents this season and 3-0 against the top-10.
  • The sophomore is also 21-1 in doubles overall, including an undefeated record with Klaassen.
  • Klaassen remains undefeated in dual match play, standing at 15-0 and 18-3 on the season overall.
