No. 23 Women’s Tennis Drops WCC Tournament Final

Box Score SAN DIEGO – The No. 23 San Diego women's tennis program (16-7, 5-1 WCC) saw their rally come up short, falling 4-0 to No. 6 Pepperdine (17-6, 6-0 WCC) in the WCC Tournament final on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In their second match in a span of just over a week, the Toreros brought added energy to their meeting with the Waves.
Abigail Desiatnikov and Elizabeth Goldsmith shined in double, taking an early break point against the No. 2 doubles team in the nation.
Despite a rally by Pepperdine to make it 5-4, the duo held on and earned an enormous win.
Nevertheless, the Waves held on to secure the doubles point.
The Toreros attempted to rally in singles and found early success against the highly ranked Waves lineup.
Goldsmith and Mia Mack each won the opening set against their top-50 opponents, while Kristina Nordikyan also took the opening set.
However, the Waves began to answer back and took a pair of matches to make it 3-0.
The Toreros continued to fight, as Nordikyan got just three points away from a match victory, but the Waves managed to clinch the final point.

NEXT UP

The Toreros will await their fate for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, with the selection show set for Monday, Apr. 29.
