INDIANAPOLIS — San Diego golf advanced to the postseason for a fourth consecutive year when it was selected to compete in the Rancho Santa Fe Regional, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Toreros will host and take part in a 54-hole regional tournament at The Farms Golf Club — which is located just 20 miles from the University of San Diego — from May 13-15 and will compete in the event as a nine-seed. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
USD earned an automatic bid to the postseason over the weekend when it clinched its first WCC Championship since 2008 by winning at Gold Mountain Golf Club. San Diego got stronger as the 2023-2024 season went on, winning the Lamkin Invitational (March 4-5) at their home course (San Diego Country Club) and placing second at both the Pauma Valley Invitational (March 18-19) and the El Macero Classic (April 12-14) before taking home the conference title in Bremerton, Washington.
San Diego's successful campaign was punctuated by a WCC Men's Golf Coach of the Year honor for
Chris Riley and All-WCC First Team selections for
Craig Ronne, who won the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club in March and
Andi Xu, a Rancho Santa Fe native who notched four Top-10 finishes this season.
Riley was the first Torero golf coach to take home the award since Tim Mickleson in 2011.
