HOW IT HAPPENED – SAN DIEGO 7, SANTA CLARA 3
- After offense was hard to come by in game one on Thursday, the Toreros quickly changed the trend in game two on Friday.
- Amanda Limon led off the first inning with a single before Taylor Johnson put runners on the corners with her own single.
- Joecellia Roberts immediately drove home the game's opening run with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
- After Tele Jennings loaded the bases, Alyssa Hernandez moved the line forward with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
- Another run would come home on an error before Shawnese Hogue-Lacy extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run single.
- The Toreros continued to tack on runs in the next inning, as Carly Ruiz laced a triple over the head of the right fielder to set up Johnson.
- From there, Johnson drove her home with an RBI single to make it 6-0.
- Santa Clara responded with a pair of runs in the third, but the Toreros would turn to Kelsey Tadlock in the circle, who quickly quieted the rally.
- Meanwhile, the Toreros added another run in the third inning as Ruiz drove in Hogue-Lacy following a double to make it 7-2.
- Tadlock delivered a hitless fourth inning and limited the Broncos to just one run the rest of the way, allowing just three total hits over 5.1 innings of relief to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SAN DIEGO 3, SANTA CLARA 2
- Game two of the day followed the pattern of Thursday's game, with both sides getting dominant pitching, as McKenna Braegelmann took control in the circle.
- After allowing a leadoff single, Braegelmann made quick work of the rest of the frame and carried that forward in each inning.
- The San Diego offense attempted to support her, as Roberts tallied a leadoff double in the second inning but was stranded on the base paths.
- In the third inning, Mikalyn Emanuelli and Limon tallied back-to-back singles but could not come home.
- The Toreros nearly struck again in the fourth inning, as they loaded the bases on a Jennings single, Hernandez double and Michelle Delgado walk, but were stymied.
- However, San Diego finally broke through in the fifth inning.
- Limon and Ruiz dropped back-to-back bunt singles to set up Johnson.
- The sophomore blasted a 1-1 pitch to left center field for a three-run home run to take the first lead of the game.
- The lead nearly increased in the same inning, as the Toreros loaded the bases again, but could not increase the advantage.
- Braegelmann took her scoreless run into the seventh inning, but after allowing a leadoff double, she gave way to Courtney Rose.
- Santa Clara attempted a late rally, scoring on two wild pitches to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Toreros held on, and Rose picked up the save.
