SAN FRANCISCO — A dominant, focused effort on both sides of the ball led San Diego baseball (37-13, 20-4 WCC) to the outright 2024 West Coast Conference Regular-Season Championship on Sunday afternoon, beating San Francisco by a 7-2 margin at Benedetti Diamond to earn the regular-season crown for the first time since 2015.

Jakob Christian's 22nd home run of 2024, all nine Toreros starters notched a hit in the series finale, including four with two or more.
Left-hander
Austin Smith turned in a solid outing for USD on the mound, starting the game with five innings of one run ball that saw him scatter three hits, work around four walks, and strike out three.
San Diego had clinched at least a share of the regular-season conference title on Saturday afternoon, but sealed sole possession of the 2024 championship by sweeping the Dons in Sunday's series finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Justin DeCriscio got the scoring started in the top of the second with an RBI single, plating Jack Costello to give USD an early 1-0 advantage.
- Angelo Peraza followed with a two-RBI single to left field, and after DeCriscio and Dustin Allen raced home it was 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
- San Francisco answered back in the bottom of the third with a run on an RBI single of its own to cut the deficit to 3-1, where it remained until the midpoint of the game.
- An RBI double from Jakob Christian in the top of the fifth brought home Angelo Peraza to make it 4-1, then Costello send Christian home from second with an RBI triple into the right-field corner.
- After Costello dashed home from third on a wild pitch, it was 6-1, Toreros.
- Christian added another run in the top of the seventh with a towering solo shot before USF answered with a homer of its own in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-2, but the Dons got no closer.
ON THE MOUND
- Smith held San Francisco scoreless for five innings before passing the baton to Alex Schrier, who struck out three across a pair of run-free frames.
- Nick Suspenzi surrendered a run on two hits in a third of an inning, then Conner Thurman closed out the win with 1.2 perfect innings.

- Smith picked up the win to move to 5-0 in 2024.
- Christian, Peraza, Armas, and Costello all had multiple hits on Sunday.
- Christian and Costello both scored two runs, while Peraza and Christian both drove in a pair apiece.
