Ariel Armas Named Finalist for 2024 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award

Junior catcher was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year, as Semifinalist for Buster Posey Award in May

GREENSBORO, NC — San Diego baseball's Ariel Armas was one of just three catchers to be selected as a 2024 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Finalist, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday morning.

The 2024 NCAA Division I Gold Glove finalists were voted on and selected by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.

ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball.

Armas, who was also named the 2024 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, to the 2024 All-WCC First Team, and as one of 16 semifinalists for the 2024 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, started 55 of the Toreros' 56 games at catcher this season, posting a .998 fielding percentage while throwing out 15 would-be base stealers and leading the nation with 18.69 Defensive Runs Saved (according to 6-4-3 Charts, as of June 5), 3.58 more runs saved than the next closest player.

In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 19 via social media by Rawlings Sporting Goods.
