FULLERTON, Calif. – The San Diego women's soccer program (0-1, 0-0 WCC) fell into an early hole and could not recover, dropping their season opener, 3-0, at Cal State Fullerton (1-0, 0-0 Big West) on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a cagey first 10 minutes, it would be the Toreros who registered the first shot on goal of the game, as Sara Evans found herself in tight following a through ball from Mikayla Abrenica.
- Evans got a shot off and forced the Titans goalkeeper to make an early save at the near post.
- San Diego limited the Titans for the first 20 minutes, but the home side broke through in the 22nd minute with a goal from Makenna McGill.
- Chances from Tamia Graham and Abrenica would not go, and the Titans responded with another goal in the 32nd minute by Kaylee Noble to make it 2-0.
- The lead would expand again in the 44th minute as Noble added another goal to increase Cal State Fullerton's lead to 3-0.
- While the Toreros defense was able to lock down the Titans in the second half, the offense could not manage enough shots to produce a rally and ultimately dropped the opener.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Ella Callanan made her collegiate debut in the loss, recording 29 minutes of action.
- Ilise Medrano matched her career-high with five saves on the night, including a pair of acrobatic stops.
